LO2: UTC Photo Shoot Practise Evaluation
The photos;
What I did in my shoot was dismantle two pieces of technology that teenagers use day to day and took the photo's of the circuits contained within them. I planned to do single shots and I followed that with my photos been took one by one. I did try to use different perspectives like macro and close ups on the controller. The only equipment I used was the Canon DSLR 650D camera to take the pictures and a chair to place the items on so I could take a picture of them. The props were the only things I took photos of and these were the game controller and mobile phone. In my opinion I need more help with the control of the camera as most settings I'm not familiar with, I managed to at least take three shots with a depth of field. I used macro so I could get a close up on the circuits inside the item, but I would like to have been able to control the aperture and shutter speed. When taking the photos I didn't use shadows, reflection or a flash, I only took the photos without a flash. Even though I did use depth of field, I feel like I could of done it better if I was actually focusing on taking photos with a depth of field. I didn't use any camera based filters mainly because I didn't know how to use it, but I would of used monochrome on some shots if I did. Another thing I would improve upon is actually using photographic elements. If I was to edit them I would add the monochrome filter or make a point of interest in the photo by making the point coloured whilst the rest is in monochrome as this would also help with my photo having a photographic element included in it. So, I think that the positives about this shoot was the composition of the items in the photo, which could be improved upon, and also the features like the depth of field or macro shots were quite a positive outcome of the shoot, which could also be approved upon with me knowing more about how to use the camera. So in conclusion I need to improve on knowing the setting of the camera and giving a better composition in the photos.

LO2: Planning my UTC photo-shoot.
Where?
The photo-shoot will take
place in the Multi-Purpose Space of UTC Sheffield.
When?
The photo-shoot will take
place on the 4th of March 2016 between the times of 13:25 and 15:00pm
Risks?
The
Multi-Purpose Space is a huge space with no major risks that could cause
harm.
Theme?
My theme for my shoot is
going to be technology, this is because people use it every day and it affects
their life.
Meaning behind it?
The meaning I'm trying to
show is that technology is everywhere and that our whole world consists of it.
Equipment?
To take the pictures I will
be using a Canon DSLR 650D as this has many professional options to choose from
that I can use in the shoot, such as aperture and ISO control.
Lighting?
I will either use high key
or low key lighting in my photo-shoot as planning to use natural lighting can
mean that it will be unpredictable, so with high or low lighting I can control
the brightness and tone.
Camera Mode?
I will most likely use Mode
P (Programmed Auto) as this would be easier for me because I need more practice
with cameras before I can use the manual mode, Mode P lets the camera
automatically control the Aperture and Shutter speed whilst Manual lets the
photographer handle it.
Aperture?
Aperture
is how much light is let in, basically meaning how bright I want my photo, and
seen as I will be having two types of lighting, this may vary; for example, if
the lighting is dim I might use a higher aperture.
Shutter Speed?
The shutter speed is how quick or slow the shutter closes when
taking a picture, a slower shutter speed means more blur as light is
continually let in whilst a quicker shutter speed may be used for sport to
catch photos in the moment. I will be using a quick shutter speed, as I do not
want any blur in my photos.
ISO?
If there is a lot of light when taking the
photo I may need a lower ISO but if their isn't I will be using a higher ISO.
Depth of Field?
I will be using a depth of field, as I can
combine this with macro to make a suitable looking photo.
To Flash or Not to Flash?
I will not be taking photos with the flash
because the location will have lighting, and I will only use the flash if
there's a lighting problem or the item appears too dark.
Macro, Exposure Value Mode, Continuous or Single
Shooting?
I will be using the Macro mode with single
shooting.
File Type (RAW or JPEG)?
The file type I will use is a RAW as this is
an uncompressed file that can be converted to a JPEG that is compressed and a
RAW file also preserve the sharpness, contrast and other information that is on
the camera.
Equipment in the Shoot?
I will be using the DSLR 650D Camera and a
seat to place the items on that I will take the photos of.
Contingencies?
I will have to relocate to a different place
if the location I am using is busy. I will bring a spare battery if my battery
runs out and a spare SD card just in case I run out of space on the first one.
Protecting My Photos.
I will have my photos backed-up on a spare SD
Card, USB Stick and on my laptop, both in the files and an online drive (i.e.
Owncloud, OneDrive etc.)
Obtaining Permission from Models.
My photos are of objects and not models so I
do not need to obtain permission.
Ensuring My Photos are in focus (Such as stabilisation).
I will make sure my photos are in focus by
taking lots of shots and even using the burst mode so that I rapidly takes
photos, then I can review them and see which ones are in focus.
Framing, Landscape or Portrait?
I will mainly take shots in landscape as I am
not taking pictures of models, which are usually took with portrait. Landscape
will also allow me to fit more into the photo.
Description of photos I intend to take.
I will be taking photos of the inner workings
of some pieces of technology; such as a phone and a games console controller.
Viewpoint?
I will do some from a bird’s eye view, some
from the side and a few close ups.
How will I use the rule of thirds?
I will use the rule of thirds by making sure
things like the microchips and different pieces attached to the hardware inside
the pieces of technology.
Will I be shooting in Colour, Sepia or Monochrome?
I will use colour as the things inside the
piece of technology will be different colours, like the wires for example.
Will I be using silhouettes and shadows?
I will not be shooting any photos that use
silhouettes but I will use shadow on some shots.
Will I be using Pattern and Repetition?
I will be use repetition in some shots as it
has a few components in the pieces of technology that there is multiple of and
I could use that to create repetition.
Will I be using Leading lines?
I will not be using leading lines as the pieces
of technology I am using are either too small, or full of so many components
that I cannot find an opportunity to take a photo that uses leading lines.
The Overall Narrative?
The overall narrative of these pictures is to
show how complicated technology is and how it’s taking over the world.

LO2 Legal and Ethical Issues
Child Protection is classed as both legal and ethical issues, it refers to the protection of children from
violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect. This means that companies have to follow a guideline of rules, such as; avoiding the use of a child's name, they have to get a permission from the parents or carers of the child and they also need to get permission from the kid themselves that they may take the photos of, which the kids also need to be wearing appropriate clothing. Guidelines similar to the these have to be given to the employees or personnel of the company. The child can not be left unsupervised with the staff and needs their parent or carer with them and finally, the kid should never be photographed at their home or outside a set event the company agreed to.
When it comes to child protection I'll have to do things such as seek a written permission from the parents if I want to photograph them, make sure that the parents are present with the child at any photography sessions and never use their name in the photos on websites and promotional materials.
Data Protection is classed mainly as legal issues but some ethical issues come into play too. The protection is apart of the DPA (Data Protection Act) and is a law placed to protect a certain persons data, this can be things such as their photos, name, address, credit history etc. that are placed in computer databases, these can be easily accessed and edited, businesses can easily get a hold of this information, if the company that has it sells it or uses it without your permission, they have violated the law. A photography company that wants to avoid violating the act, they would need to apply this to the information commissioner before storing any of this kind of data. They need to declare what the information that they're going to store is and how it will be used, they also need to declare how it will be kept safe. Finally, they need to agree that they won't use the information in any other way than they agreed to, including photographs.

If I collect data from people I am photographing I have to tell them what it will be used for, how I will store it and how
long I will keep it for. I need store
photographs away safely especially if they can be used to identify people as
this will be classed as sensitive personal data. And finally I always get consent when taking
photos as this is classed as data.
Copyright is the law that protects a producer's intellectual property they have created, this means someone else can't use your property without your consent, and the same goes for you asking some one else to us theirs. Things that can be considered Intellectual property are; Music recordings, video recordings (for things like film and TV), literacy work (Anything to do with illustrations such as a book), Art work or photography work.
You can put a patent on a piece of intellectual protect, the person who owns the patent can take action against anyone who try to re-make, sell or import your work, this works by registering the look or design of a product, this is the appearance, physical shape , configuration and decoration of the product. Creative commons is an organisation that do not make money and are used as a way of using copyright free material, specifically music and photos. I will not have to worry about my photos infringing copyright as my photos will be my own work and will not include anything that needs to be approved by a producer of an intellectual property.
Model Release is a legal document signed by the model that you are taking a photo of, this gives permission to publish a photo with their identity. The legal document is called a 'Model release form' and the model signs this to agree with a set terms and conditions and you need this so that you have proof of the model agreeing with you to use their identity. I will not need to get permission for the use of a model in my photo, as my photos are took in the forest and involve no models at all, and so this means I do not need to get a model to sign the release form.
Public space and private space are what a location are classed as, if the location is open to the public and you do not need to seek permission to photo shoot their, then it's a public space, but if you take the photo and someone is walking by, and you still want to use the photo, then you need to get their permission through a model release form. On the other hand, their is private spaces, and this is when a location is owned by someone, their are some exceptions, such as you can take a photo of a private building or private land, as long as you are not on the land that is owned. If the case is that you are on private land, then you need to get a location release form, this is signed by the land owner as a binding contract with the photographer, granting permission for use of their land to take photos (This can also go for shooting a movie, video or commercial). I will not need to get any permission by using a location release form because the land I am shooting on is a public forest where anyone can enter and walk through.
Misrepresentation is an ethical issue that you have to look out for in a photo. Defamatory is when you represent a model in a negative way by representing them as a person who they are not. You also have to avoid misrepresenting stereotypes negatively, this includes; races, religions, cultures, abilities and disabilities. You should not misrepresent them as it can be found very offensive. I will not have to worry about misrepresenting any of these things because I will not be using a model, or anything else that I could use to misrepresent, as I am taking pictures in the forest of trees, plants and nature.
